Girl's Life
Celeb Spotlight on Scarlett Pomers
Written by Alicia Clott
She's worked with the likes of Julia Roberts and Reba McEntire, and guest-starred on That's Life, Providence, Touched by an Angel and Judging Amy. She's only 13, but Scarlett Pomers can hang with the best of them. After three years on Star Trek: Voyager, she's evolved as Kyra on WB's Friday night hit Reba.
Girls' Life: What's it like working with Reba?
Scarlett: Reba's really cool. She's very down to earth and nice to be around. She sets the tone, and the crew doesn't curse when she's around. She has very good manners while you're around her.
What have you learned from being on Reba?
No matter what happens, make the best of whatever situation you are in. Reba's daughter is pregnant and going through a divorce, but she still works hard for the family. It's very admirable.
Do you have any brothers or sisters?
I have an older brother who is 24, and we like a lot of the same stuff. Most people get jealous of us because siblings fight, and we don't. We saw Lord of The Rings three times together.
Do you guys sing on the set at all?
Reba likes to sing around the set and we mostly just goof around. Actually she gives me advice because I'm a singer too.
You're part of such a dysfunctional TV family. How would you handle the situation if it was reality?
I would try to be like Reba's character—deal with it, try not to lose my temper, keep myself busy, like take soccer or yoga or karate.
What part did you have in Michael Jackson's "Heal the World" video?
I barely remember it. I was running down the street with other children.
Did you see Michael?
No, I wish.
If you could work with anyone, who would it be?
I would sing with Busta Rhymes because I really like him. My brother and I listen to him. He's clever and a good lyricist. Acting wise, I would work with someone who's focused, like Elijah Wood. He's very into it and very focused. He has a wide range of roles.
What type of music do you sing?
I like all music, but I like hip-hop and punk rock. I like to sing R&B jazzy blues stuff.
What's the best concert you've been to?
Janet Jackson is an awesome dancer with awesome sets and costumes. I think Christina Aguilera is cool because it's all about her amazing singing. It's all about the songs and good choreography.
What's your most embarrassing moment?
It was when the audience was on set watching us tape a show. There was a trash can near the seats. I went to throw my gum away and stumbled over some wires. The audience people were right there watching.
